Fun with Fables


Introduction:
This next lesson is all about Fables.  Here is a quick review of what makes fable:
1. a short story
2. typically with animals as characters
3 conveys a moral

Here is story to refresh your memory:

Please be sure to ask yourself:
 What is the setting of the fable?
  Who are the characters?
What problems do the characters have?
 How do they solve the problem?
  What lesson/moral does the fable teach?

You will create your own fable using Storybird.com

Lesson Standard:
3.0 Literary Responses and Analysis
Students read and respond to a wide variety of significant works of children’s literature. They distinguish between the structural features of the text and the literary terms or elements (e.g., theme, plot, setting, characters).

Goals and Objectives
Goals: Student will learn how to write their own short story fable.
Objective: Students will be able to evaluate and identify characters, a setting, and a plot from reading a fable.



Lesson task and process:
11.  To complete your fable you will need to answer the following questions:
What is the setting of the fable?
Who are the characters?
What problems do the characters have?
How do they solve the problem?
What lesson/moral does the fable teach?
Write out your answers in your digital journal.  I will check to make sure you have answered all of the questions before moving on.
2. Use your answers to write a short story.  Be sure to check for spelling and grammar errors.
3. Go to  Storybird.com and login to class site. Search for art that will go with your story.
4.   Once your art is found, type in your story and submit. 
5.  You will be required to read your fellow classmates stories and answer
these questions to at least two peers:
What is the setting of the fable?
Who are the characters?
What problems do the characters have?
How do they solve the problem?
What lesson/moral does the fable teach?

Post a comment about what you liked about the story.  Please be sure to include if all of the questions have been answered.
